LEHI MAIN WATER LINE REPAIR — TARGETED SPOT FIXES

Lehi has a younger housing stock than most of the Wasatch Front, which changes the repair-vs-replace math in ways that matter to your wallet. Most of the city's water service lines were laid between 2005 and 2020. They're not 50-year-old galvanized — they're 5-to-20-year-old copper, PEX, or HDPE. When a young line leaks, the cause is almost always localized — and that means a spot repair, not a full replacement, is usually the right call.

Master-planned subdivisions (2010s+) — Traverse Mountain, Holbrook Farms, Skye Estates, Ivory Ridge, Cold Springs Ranch, Thanksgiving Point

Builder-grade copper installed at year 0 starts seeing isolated pinhole leaks at year 10-15 in Utah's aggressive clay soil. The rest of the line is fine — it's a single failure point. We're seeing this right now on the earliest Traverse Mountain builds (2010-2013 vintage) and it'll roll forward into Holbrook Farms and Ivory Ridge over the next 3-5 years. Repair scope: locate the pinhole acoustically, dig a 4x4 pit, splice in a 12-inch section of new copper (or upgrade that section to HDPE), pressure test, inspect, restore. Cost: $850-$1,850 in most cases. Compare that to a $7,500 full replacement, and repair wins every time the rest of the copper is still sound.

PEX fittings sometimes work loose under decades of pressure cycling — particularly on developer-grade installs in Holbrook Farms and Cold Springs Ranch. Symptoms look identical to a pipe leak. We dig the fitting, replace it with an expansion or crimp connection that won't move, and you're done.

Old Lehi (1900s-1950s) — Main Street, downtown, central corridor

Galvanized steel service lines from this era are 70-100+ years old and almost never repair candidates. The corrosion is general, not localized — fix one spot and the next failure shows up 6 feet away. We'll be honest at the diagnostic: if your Old Lehi galvanized has had two leaks in the last 24 months, the right answer is replacement, not repair. The exception is a leaking shutoff valve at the meter or house — that's a $325-$1,250 valve job, not a pipe job, and we do those constantly in Old Lehi.

Unincorporated Lehi (well-water properties)

If you're still on a private well, repairs we see most often are the in-house supply line failures between the pressure tank and the main shutoff, not the buried run. Different scope, often inside-the-house plumbing rather than excavation. We'll diagnose on the site walk and tell you which side of the wall the failure is on.
